When you think of Idaho, cigars and scotch are probably not the first things that come to mind--or at least for me they weren't. That was changed upon a recent trip to Boise, where I met a group of scotch and cigar connoisseurs.
As I walked around beautiful downtown Boise, I got to experience their local farmer's market, coffee shops and of course the finest cigar shop in the area: Sturman's Smoke Shop. There I enjoyed a cigar and had a chance to meet some of the regulars, including owner of the smoke shop, Ryan Sturman.
Afterwards, I enjoyed a delicious lunch in the Basque area of Boise just before heading back to get ready for the event.
The evening commenced at a unique location, in an upscale waterfront tavern just outside of Boise. The idea to host this soiree came from author Aaron Patterson and his Boise Scotch & Cigar club. The group's well-versed palate for all things scotch and cigars has forced them to outgrow the comforts of Aaron Patterson's home and move onto their first public event. Everything from location, caliber of scotch, cigar selection, music, ambience, and of course the friendly and well decorated people made this affair incredibly impressive and memorable.
